Some Questions and Answers
Will the treatment affect my fish pond or swimming pool?
First and foremost, we do not treat ponds or pools. But yes, fish and most other aquatic life are very sensitive to pesticides, that is why we are very careful not to spray near areas where runoff could become a factor. As for the ponds, there are fish that can be added that will naturally prey on mosquito larvae. And pool chlorine deactivates most pesticides, so there won’t be a problem as far as your swimming pool is concerned either.
Do the mosquitoes in my area pose a health risk to myself and my family?
The humble mosquito is labeled as the most dangerous animal to humans on earth! Every year, in the St. Louis area, we have cases of west Nile virus and most recently Chikungunya.
Do you service commercial accounts?
We love commercial accounts. It’s where we got our start!
How much does treatment cost?
Treatments are based on yard size, but average $60 to $75 per treatment.
Will the rain affect my treatment?
Certainly we cannot treat during a rain storm, but once the products have had a chance to dry the treatment will hold for about half a month. We will re-treat as needed, if the mosquitos return.
Is there an all natural treatment option?
If only there was! The truth is, even with all of the products we use, mosquitoes are still very prevalent. This is why they top the list of MOST dangerous animals to humans on earth. That being said, you will do yourself a great favor by trimming overgrown vegetation and removing all standing water.
How long does it take to do the treatment? And how long will it last?
The initial inspection and treatment will be approximately 30 minutes with follow up treatments about 20 minutes For an average yard. Treatments last about half a month should begin at the beginning of spring and continue until the season is over Approximately May thru September but is totally weather controlled.
Will you kill all of the mosquitoes on my property?
We cannot stop new mosquitos from migrating into your yard from other areas. That being said, we will put a severe hurting on the ones you have. This is also the reason for treating twice a month — so they do make their way back. We do guarantee your satisfaction, and a DRAMATIC decrease 85% to 90% should be expected.
Is the spraying dangerous to me and my family?
No it is not. The amount of active ingredients we apply are actually in the parts per billion, and are mixed with water. During treatment, however, we do recommend that pet water and food bowls be picked up, along with any children’s toys. But if something is accidentally sprayed, simply wash it off with soap and water. The truth of the matter is, your typical non-organic, unwashed apple poses more of a risk to you than what our spray does.
Do I need to worry about mosquitoes in the winter time?
Short answer: No, they hibernate. Mosquitos are cold blooded and prefer temperatures 80 degrees and above. They lay eggs which when dried out can last for years, and through the heaviest of winters.
Do those new propane mosquito traps I’ve seen in the stores really work?
Actually, they attract mosquitos! So NO!
How do mosquitoes breed, and what can be done to stop them?
Mosquitos must have water to breed. Along with other environmental factors, such as temperature, the single biggest factor in mosquito control is eliminating standing water. The rainier the year the more mosquitos we will have, it’s as simple as that! And unfortunately, with the recent El Niño events bringing rain into our area, we have seen a surge of mosquito activity.
Removing vegetation and standing water such birdbaths, cans, old tires, etc… will help eliminate mosquito breeding grounds. But lets face it folks, unless everyone in your entire neighborhood does it we are going still to have these nasty pests in our lives. Selective spraying of vegetation in your yards, on a regular basis, is the only other thing that will reduce the population of these critters.
Do all mosquitoes spread disease?
It is not true that all mosquitos carry diseases, in fact most do not! Here in the United States we have close to 175 different species of mosquitoes — the Asian Tiger mosquito being the most common, as well as the Anopheles Quadrimaculatus and the Aedes Aegypti. The Anopheles is the malaria carrier, while the others carry many different diseases. Obviously the more mosquitos there are around, the greater your chances of running into the few that do carry diseases. I don’t know about you, but when I step outside in the evening I am instantly attacked by about a dozen of these blood suckers! So by doing something to eliminate these pests we are not only making a safer environment for ourselves, but also a more pleasant one….
