Types of Ants in St. Louis
Carpenter Ants
These large ants are known for damaging wood by creating tunnels for their nests. Unlike termites, they don't eat wood but remove it to build their living spaces. Identifiable by their black or dark brown colors, they can cause significant structural damage over time.
Pavement Ants
Small, dark brown to black in color, pavement ants make their nests in or under cracks in pavements. They are often found invading properties while searching for food, and though they're not harmful, they can be a nuisance due to their numbers.
Odorous House Ants
Named for the unpleasant odor they release when crushed, these small, brown ants are attracted to sweet foods. Often found in kitchens, ants can taint food supplies and become an ongoing problem if not effectively controlled.
